Sherry Buresh is the National Incident Command Deputy for the Christian Emergency Network. In her Disaster Response Director  role she coaches and trains CEN partners and volunteers before, during and after emergencies of all kinds. She sets up volunteer operations centers in areas of greatest need, manages all field operations, and advises CEN partners during activation. Sherry brings her extensive experience in leading numerous disaster responses, including responses to Hurricanes Katrina, Harvey, Irma, Maria and Florence and as well as international disasters following major mass casualty earthquakes, such as the Nepal Earthquake, into her CEN advisory and training role. When not responding to an incident, Sherry trains Christians nationwide to biblically respond  to any emergency large or small at home, at church and citywide.

Her “on the ground” Disaster Response experience include:   

  • Training and Managing Home/Property Clean-up
  • Setting up VRCs (Volunteer Reception Centers)
  • Warehousing Donations
  • Organizing Delivery of Emergency In-Kind Donations
  • Guiding onsite Christian Spiritual Care.

Sherry’s Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) leadership resulted in coordinating and leading over 3,000 volunteers during a 10 day period in cleaning up from after tornado; registering and tracking hours for 5,000 volunteers within a two week period; registering 18,808 volunteers; and tracking 92,545 volunteer hours over a 2 month period.
In 2014 and 2017, she was honored with the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (NVOAD) Member of the Year Award and received the “Peace and Towels” award as recognition for selfless service. 
Sherry has chaired Kentucky Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters and the Eastern KY Long-Term Recovery Coordinating Committee (2004-2006).

She is a Member of:

Sherry has been trained in: National Incident Management System, Incident Command System & Incident System Courses; Mass Care Sheltering; Individual Crisis and Peer Support; Psychosocial Impact of Disasters & Catastrophic Events; Group Crisis Intervention; Mental Health Aspects of Emergencies & Disasters; and Weapons of Mass Destruction/ Terrorism (WMD) Defensive Operations Level.

When Sherry is not deployed or you will find her enthusiastically sharing her “inspirational stories of lives helped and transformed through a relationship with Christ during crisis.” She and her husband, also an emergency responder, live in Kentucky. They have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
