National Emergency Prayer Alert

When disaster strikes, receive accurate, reliable information from the Christian Emergency Network (a partner alliance with the Department of Homeland Security – DHS) and the National Day of Prayer Task Force. The National Emergency Prayer Alert is a free service providing information on how to intercede in times of national crisis. You’ll receive an email including:

  • An inside report within minutes of a national incident
  • A Biblical perspective on how to respond
  • Urgent prayer prompts to guide targeted intercession
  • Words of encouragement from the Bible to share with others
  • Updates as the incident unfolds and reports or answered prayer

On January 8, 2011, when U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and eighteen other people were shot during a public meeting held in a supermarket parking lot, volunteer Christian responders were at the scene reporting. Speaking directly with leaders in law enforcement, emergency responders and the FBI on location, CEN quickly verified the incident, received vital instructions, and formulated a Christian response. Within 30 minutes, the leaders of Tucson churches and the nation were alerted, with specific directives on how to pray. That evening, prayer vigils were held throughout the city with a comforting message of Jesus Christ’s love, and forgiveness.

“This is why I am asking all NDP prayer coordinators to sign up for this service. Working with CEN we can respond with the full power of our network immediately following a national crisis.” – Shirley Dobson, Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force

The National Emergency Prayer Alert is our commitment to the CEN Readiness Project; a grassroots effort to assess the readiness of Christian organizations for crisis response. After an assessment, we pledged to provide the support of our prayer coordinators, nationwide. We are joining CEN in calling all Christian organizations to consider, “How can you respond to the needs of communities in crisis?”
