Critical Incident Stress Management
This training supports the role(s) of: Care Officer, Share Officer
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) classes are often held following the Sharing Hope in Crisis (SHIC) seminar in the same location with six months of SHIC. Each RRT Chaplain is required to take the SHIC and two of the CISM courses from the list provided below and in the Chaplain Application Packet. Many people have had great training, but for the following reasons we adhere to this training protocol.
We use CISM for several main reasons:
- It is recognized by FEMA, DHS, NVOAD, state governments
and other Crisis Intervention and Disaster
Response organizations. - It is available in a variety of locations across the USA and Internationally.
RRT Chaplains are asked to take at least two from the list below:
- Assisting Individuals in Crisis
- Pastoral Crisis 1 and 2
- Emotional and Spiritual Care
- Grief Following Trauma
- CISM Application with Children
- Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention
- Law Perspective of CISM
- Group Crisis Intervention
Each CISM course is approximately 13 hours
long and is accredited by the University of Maryland for CEUʼs.
Courses may vary in cost by location and class size.
